Scott Starner passed away on August 7, 2023 at the age of 58, with his mother and sister by his side at the Pickering House in his hometown of Lancaster, Ohio of heart failure. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Scott came out a hero and stayed strong until the end. He is pre-deceased by his father, Charles Starner; brother, Robert Starner; and nephew, Shane Starner. He is survived by his mother, Iris Kathleen Starner; sister, Heidi Lynn Oliver (Neil Oliver); niece, Alynzia Price (Sam Price); great nephew, Rowan Price; nephew, Kevin Rupe; great niece, Arabella Rupe; and sister-in-law, Sue Starner; aunts, Ann Pollan (Joe Pollan), Margie Davis, Rachael Lenard; uncles, Chaince Stewart; many cousins; and special friends, Larry Moler, Kim Huck, Steve Young, and Alan Beatty.
Scott was a graduate of Lancaster High School (Class of 83), where he was the editor of the school newspaper, and runner-up for the Kilbarger Scholarship, awarded for academic achievement. After graduation, Scott enlisted in the United States Navy, and served for 4 years as a Navy Medic. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he attended Ohio University, Lancaster Campus, and studied Russian History as well as Writing. He was a freelance writer and avid photographer, and had several articles published in local newspapers.
A graveside Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 16th at 1:00PM at the Maple Grove Cemetery, of State Route 22 Lancaster, OH. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Pickering House, Lancaster, OH.
