Lancaster - Jean E. Schromme, 94, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 12, 2018, at the Fairfield Medical Center. She was born on December 3rd, 1923 to the late Stanley and Creda Bibler. Jean attended Avalon United Brethren Church for many years and later became a member of the Lancaster United Brethren Church, where she taught Sunday school, Junior Church, and Vacation Bible School. She worked as a bookkeeper at Cunningham Motors for 17 years and then decided to enter college to pursue a teaching career, in which she excelled in every way! She taught kindergarten her first year Millersport and then taught third grade at Cedar Heights Elementary School until she retired. Devoted to her students, Jean was loved and respected by her students, parents and colleagues alike. She provided loving, positive, and Christian influence to hundreds of children over the years. She was a member of Business and Professional Women and of Delta Kappa Gamma. She received the prestigious "Lester Crow Award for Excellence in Student Teaching" and awards from "Who's Who Among American Teachers". Jean is survived by her sister, DeLee (Lee) Folk, of Junction City and brother, Lewis "Bud" (Debbie) Bibler of Lancaster; nieces and nephews, Dick (Teri) Folk, Derrie (Roger) Davis, Daryl (Lisa) Folk, Daryn (Andrea) Folk, Ginny (Brian) Moore, Angie (Shawn) Baird, Neil (Debbie) Bibler and Chris (Lori) Bibler; many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 43 years, William "Bill" Schromme until his passing in 1993; brothers, Max, Stanley Jr., and Ralph; sisters-in law Patricia Bibler and Joann Bibler.
The funeral will be held on Friday, November 16th at 1:00 PM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME, 436 N. Broad St. Lancaster, with David C. Tingler officiating. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 PM and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday. Burial will follow at Forest Rose Cemetery on North Columbus St., Lancaster.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Jean's name to the United Brethren Scioto Youth Camp, Junction City. Jean taught children of all ages to know and love Jesus at this camp and purchased hundreds of Bibles to be donated to children while at the camp.
