David Lee Whitmore was born August 21, 1934 to Ray Mitchell Whitmore and Vivian Verde (Hanlin) Whitmore in Scott County, KS, on his Grandfather Ephraim Leslie Hanlin's homestead on the SW corner of Scott County in the Dry Lake District in the same Sod house where his mother was born. He graduated from Scott County High School and joined the Army shortly after serving four years as FA Crewman, becoming Sgt. he later transferred to Army Reserve Kansas Military District. He completed 8 years of service. He joined the VFW and American Legion and remained a member until his death. He died May 18, 2018 after a long struggle with cancer.
He married Priscilla Marie Comeaux in January of 1955 and he joined the Division of State Police in Baton Rouge, LA in 1956. Two daughters were born to this Union: Donna Lee, and Dianne Lynn.
David's second marriage was to Karen Kennedy and he adopted her son Danny and later they had a son Darin. David entered barbering school and barbered the remainder of his life.
David's third marriage was to Vickie Buckner and they had one daughter Desire' Nicole.
He survived by his five siblings Richard Clyde Whitmore and wife Shirley of Lafayette, CO; Janis Louise Pritts of Burlington, CO; Josie Jean Bonorris of Lancaster, CA; James Mitchell Whitmore and Kathy of Burlington, CO; and Ethel Jane VanCampen and Richard of Bigfork, MT; his children Donna Lee Whitmore of Lafayette, LA; Dianne Lynn and Jeff McClelland of Broussard, LA; Danny Gordon Whitmore and Catherine of Caliente, CA; Darin Lee and Ashley of Tehachapi, CA; Desire' Schmidt and John Belkin of Snow Mass, CO; his grandchildren Jerome Brendan Eamon Flynn, Lucas Gabriel Flynn, Amy Lynn McClelland, Jacob Roy McClelland, Garrett McClelland, Nicole Taylor Whitmore, Bear Howard Belkin; his great grandchildren Bennett Skates, Bowen Stakes, Maddagyn Flynn, Franki McClelland, Colton McClelland, and Kate McClelland. He had numerous nieces and nephews and he will be missed by all his family.
