Kensington, Pennsylvania to Asa, Sr. and Anna Dayoub. Asa was the youngest
of three children, including oldest sister, Marian, and middle sister, Connie. The
Dayoub family moved to Glendale, California in 1945, when Asa was four years
old.
Asa attended Columbus Elementary, Toll Junior High, and Hoover High
School. He received an AA degree in Political Science from Los Angeles City
College and spent his life fascinated with global and local politics. It was a
frequent topic of conversation for him.
On April 25, 1969, Asa married Annette Jacqueline Sparks in Los Angeles,
California. They had Danielle on January 31, 1970, and Jordan on June 11,
1974. Asa already had a son, Michael (born March 9, 1965), when he met
Annette. Michael lived with his dad and the rest of the family on and off
throughout his childhood.
Asa loved watching sports of all kinds on television, he loved weightlifting,
and he absolutely loved tennis, in which he lettered in school. He enjoyed
playing tennis with his kids at Griffith Park. He was in his element on the tennis
court. He could watch tennis on tv all day. He also loved watching football and
monster trucks on tv whenever he got the chance.Among his favorite pastimes were chess and card games, especially
canasta and poker.
Asa loved nature documentaries and drew metaphors for God’s reality
from the way the cosmos worked. He also loved watching science and medical
documentaries, and was fascinated by medical and scientific advancements.
Asa was a food lover, but absolutely hated garlic. If anyone near him
smelled like garlic, he would be disgusted and repulsed. (Boy, was he in the
wrong family!)
For as much as he hated garlic, he loved sweets, candies, cookies, cakes,
and ice cream a thousand times more. Candy and sweets were his love
language, and for him, the receiving and giving of treats was a profound act of
love.
Asa had an uncanny ability to recognize accents. He could tell where a
person was from, no matter how obscure their origin. He also never met a
stranger, and he absolutely loved everyone he met. He would befriend homeless
people and frequently buy them meals. It was not shocking or unexpected to
find that he had brought another homeless person to his house, allowing him or
her to have dinner with the family and take a shower. He would always use the
opportunity to share the gospel and tell the person about Jesus. His greatest
ministry was his kindness.
Asa loved the Lord and spent his life studying God’s word. He became an
elder at Greater Bethany Community Church in Los Angeles, and taught a new
members’ class for years. After Asa and Annette moved to Palmdale, California
in the early 1990s with other members of the family, they then planted a church
there in 1996, with the help of the entire family.
Asa’s health started to decline in the 2000s, but throughout affliction and
pain, he rarely complained. He maintained a positive, optimistic mentality. When
asked about his welfare, he always responded that he was blessed.
Asa Edward Dayoub went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 14, 2018,
at the age of seventy-six years old. He will be missed greatly by all who knew
him, but we take comfort and solace in knowing that he is rejoicing in the
presence of God. For those who do not know, his son, Michael, went to be with
the Lord in 2003… and now Michael and his dad are rejoicing in heaven
together! Praise the Lord!
