John F. Donovan, 84, passed away March 3, 2013 at Leisure Park Nursing Home in Lakewood. Mr. Donovan was born and raised in Elizabeth before moving to Cranford in 1972. He served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 in the 704th AAA Gun Battalion in Fort Banks, MA. John worked for the Singer Manufacturing Company and was a fireman for many years for the City of Elizabeth retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Elizabeth Exempt Fireman’s Association, FMBA Local 9, NJ State Retired Police and Firemen’s Association, American Legion Clark Post #0328 and the Deutscher Club of Clark. John was an avid walker in retirement, excelled in bowling and softball and loved the NY Yankees and Notre Dame Football. He was a loving brother and uncle and will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Donovan is survived by his four siblings Mary Fedor, Agnes Kaczmarek and her husband Thomas A., Ann Phillips, and Peggy Sharkey and her husband Hugh, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home Rt. 70 & Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 9:15AM at the St. Luke’s Church in Toms River. Interment will take place at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
