Antonino “Anthony” J. Zangari, age 74, Lakewood, NJ, passed away January 7, 2012 peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, March 23, 1937. Anthony graduated from Central High School in Newark, NJ, served as Corporal in the U.S. Army, and attended Newark College of Engineering.
He developed a passion for electrical work in junior high school and went on to become an owner of Dynamic Electric, an electrical contracting company. He was a member of Saint Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, Toms River, NJ. In retirement, Anthony enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, golfing, playing bocce, and going on mushroom forays. He achieved his 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus. Over the years, he was also a member of the Lion’s Club, UNICO International, President of Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Parish Council, President of the P.T.A., a lector, a Member of the Enclave Men’s Club, a member of First Ward Club and I.B.E.W Local 400 Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, served as a Webelo Leader and on the West Caldwell Planning Board, and taught religious education.
He is predeceased by his mother, Francesca, his father, Pietro, his step mother, Maria, his brothers, Teodoro, Jimmy, Peter, and Joseph, and his sister, Rose Palumbo. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Marilyn (Tuozzolo) Zangari. He is the devoted father of Anthony Zangari and his wife, Gina, Mark Zangari and his wife, Denise, and Christopher Zangari and his wife, Kelly. He was proud Pop Pop, a.k.a. Pops, to Valentina, Antonino, Alexander, Victoria, Claudia, Gerard (deceased), Joseph, and Chloe Noelle. He is also survived by his brother, Frank, and his sisters, Theresa Caruso, Anna Marie Shevchik and Angela Coffey.
Visitation will be held Tuesday January 10th from 4 to 8 pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home, Rt. 70 & Vermont Ave; Lakewood, NJ 08701. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday January 11th at 10 am St. Lukes Church, 1674 Old Freehold Rd; Lakewood, NJ 08701. Entombment will follow Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, send donations to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
