John Joe Atencio was born in New Mexico on January 5, 1937 to Cedico and Ursinia Atencio. He passed away on August 3, 2023 at his home in Denver, surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and loyal friend.
John is survived by his wife, Maria; his four children, John Atencio, II, Kevin Ulibarri, Denise Ulibarri, Cindy Atencio; grandchildren, John III, Celina, Julian, Desmond, Dominick, Michael, Raymond; great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and son Steven Atencio.
A visitation for John will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a rosary service at 7:00 PM, both at Advantage Runyan Stevenson, 6425 West Alameda Ave, Lakewood, CO 80226. A committal service will occur Friday, August 18, 2023 at 12:30 PM at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 12801 W. 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. A reception and celebration will follow at Advantage Runyan Stevenson from 1 PM to 4 PM.
