James Edward Moore was born in Iowa City, Iowa on the 9th of August 1935. He peacefully departed this world on November 1, 2014. James was the son of Thomas and Kathryn Moore and was the 4th of 6 children - Grace, Billie Kay, Treva, Betty, and Kathryn.
He spent his youth in Solon and Mount Vernon, Iowa until he graduated from high school in May 1953. Growing up on a farm taught Jim how to work hard, but he set his sights in a different direction the minute he hit the clouds. At just 16, he began flying lessons.
After a brief stint at the University of Iowa, Jim enlisted for 4 years in the US Air Force on February 15, 1955. The AF greatly added to his life long character - he loved uniforms, pomp & circumstance, orderliness & organization. Quite frankly, he loved his country and everything it stood for.
While on leave from Chanute AFB in Illinois, Jim’s best friend, introduced him to Elizabeth Marie Shaw who was attending Cornell College in Mount Vernon. Jim was so love struck, that at the end of his enlistment he began attending Cornell College with her in the Fall of 1958. They were married in June 1959 and moved to Denver to begin their family - 5 sons which are undoubtedly the pride and joys of his life. Robert Thomas, James Edward, John Preston, Thomas Jared, and Timothy Aaron.
Life continued to move along for Jim and his young family similar to most any other family, but his own father’s death in November 1967 changed his life forever as he searched for answers to life’s most important eternal questions. As a result, he and his family were baptized and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1968.
Jim completed his bachelor’s degree in 1971 from the University of Denver, a masters in 1977 from the University of Northern Colorado, and his doctorate in 1990 from Pacific Western University. He taught business and business law at the Community College from 1975 until his retirement in 1995. He continued flying, served in the Civil Air Patrol, served in the Colorado legislature, and became the Chief of Chaplains in the US Air Force Reserves. He served in numerous assignments within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, served with wife on a full time religious mission in Texas, and loved serving in the Denver LDS temple.
Jim’s parents and two of his sisters, Grace and Billie Kay, all left this earth before him. He leaves behind his wife of 55 years and Bob Moore of Houston Texas, Jim and Kelly Moore of Highlands Ranch Colorado, John and Trena Moore of Houston Texas, Tom and Heidi Moore of Parker Colorado, and Tim and Amy Moore of Golden Colorado. And of course 11 grandchildren, Dallen, Brandon, Shayla, Tanisha, Briana, Chandler, Sierra, Zach, Liam, Jonas, and Camdyn and the 2 great grandchildren Avery and Asher.
