Her family moved to Salida and she graduated as the Valedictorian from Salida High School. Eleanor graduated from Barne’s Business College and later instructed there. At Barne’s she met her good friend Mary Lee Lynes, who introduced her to her future husband, Coulter Smith. Eleanor and Coulter built their life and house together in Wheat Ridge. She has two sons of whom she is very proud of, Steven Earl and Glenn Jonathan. She is blessed with five grandchildren, Amy, Leslee, Natalie, Monty and Sterling who she loved to spoil and bake with. She was blessed with her first great grandchild, Theodore this year.
Eleanor traveled to England, Italy, China, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and throughout the United States with friends and family. She retired after forty years of dedicated service to Rose. After retirement, she actively volunteered at Jeffco Action Center food bank with her friend Gerry and at the diabetic center at Lutheran Medical Center. She enjoyed crafting, canning, baking, church activities and is famous for her award winning baked beans, German chocolate cake, holiday caramel corn, toffee, layered Jell-O, lemon crisp, and snickerdoodles.
She looked forward to her sister Jane’s weekly letters and annual visits. She always looked forward to retiring with her relative and great friend, Dot which never came to be.
She was blessed with many friends and neighbors in Wheat Ridge. She will be missed by all. Her love and life lessons will live on.
