Charles John Malone of Castle Rock, Colorado, passed away on January 15, 2022. Charles (Chuck) was born November 21, 1933, in Freeport, Illinois, son of Richard Malone and Marguerite Trunck Malone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Crimmins Malone, son, John P. Malone, brother-in-law and his wife, Thomas and Melvina Crimmins, sister-in-law and her husband, Margaret and Wilfrid Wurtz, sister-in-law Lorene Nelson, and nephews Michael Crimmins, Mike Johnston, and Mark Johnston.
He is survived by four children and spouses (Kevin and Anne Marie Malone; Daniel and Rebecca Malone; Michael and Kelli Malone; and Kathleen and Donald Pierce), daughter-in-law Pamela Malone, 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, along with his sister and her husband, Patricia and Thomas Johnston, and brother and his wife, Thomas and Dorothy Malone.
During his teens, Chuck worked on farms as a hired hand in the Freeport, Illinois, area and saw the last of the threshing machines give way to combines. He attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, earning a bachelor’s degree in Rangeland Ecology in 1955. Chuck met Evelyn in Washington, D.C., and they were married in November of 1958. He served as a Soil Conservationist with the USDA for 25 years, with the majority of his career based in Colorado. He enjoyed working with the farmers and being outdoors. Chuck loved to take his family camping in the Colorado mountains and had a favorite camping spot in the Cimarron Campground in Montrose County. He was an avid fisherman and passed his love of fishing to his four sons. During his retirement years, he enjoyed photographing the beautiful Colorado scenery, gardening, canning, traveling, and spending time with his loving wife. During their 61 years of marriage, he and Evelyn lived in Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and Arizona.
A Funeral Mass will be held on February 11, 2022, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 9405 W. Florida Ave, Lakewood, Colorado. A rosary will begin at 9:00 a.m., and the funeral will be at 9:30, followed by interment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave, Denver, Colorado. A reception will follow the services (reception information to be provided at the funeral).
Chuck was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lakewood Elks Lodge 1777 (1455 Newland Street, Lakewood, CO 80214) or to the Knights of Columbus Saint Jude Council #16052 Charity Fund (St. Jude Catholic Church, 9405 W Florida Ave, Lakewood, CO 80232).
