March 19, 1945 – December 27, 2022
William Allan (Bill) Williams, beloved father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, at the age of 77 after a long illness.
Bill was born in Lakehurst, New Jersey on March 19, 1945, the third child of Frances Garrett Williams and Captain Robert Jay Williams. Bill’s family moved quite a lot as he was growing up due to his dad’s military career in the U.S. Navy but most of his childhood was rooted in Danville, VA.
Bill attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX where he was a member of Southwestern’s baseball team and Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in economics while working as a tax representative at Texaco Inc. One of Bill’s proudest accomplishments was enlisting in the U.S. Marines Corps Reserve where he served from 1966 to 1972 attaining the rank of Sergeant.
During his early tenure with Texaco, Bill met Linda Kaye Steed and they were married in 1968. Bill and Linda welcomed their firstborn child, a daughter, Robin Lyn, in 1972. Bill changed companies during that time and worked for Scientific Placement as a technical recruiter for many years. Their second child, a son, Stephen Layne, was born in 1974. The family settled in Katy, TX where he established life-long friendships. Bill and Linda were married for 16 years and remained friends for the rest of his life.
Bill married Mary Kay Henderson in 1987 in Houston. In 1997, they moved from Katy to Kerrville, TX where Bill worked for Mooney Aircraft and as a real estate agent. Bill and Mary Kay loved living in the tranquil settings of their three different homes in the hill country. They enjoyed hosting momentous family gatherings where Bill was known for making his signature margaritas.
Bill’s love of baseball, football, golf and other sports kept him busy and active for years to come. He loved his family, his sister and three brothers and spent many wonderful times together at family gatherings and beach vacations. Bill’s gracious and loving personality touched so many lives in a positive way and he gave abundantly to those in need.
Bill is preceded in death by his precious wife, Mary Kay, who died unexpectedly in 2010. He eventually settled in Sun City (Georgetown), TX. Bill enjoyed the retirement community where he and his lifelong friend and travel companion, Jan North, played golf, hiked the trails, and watched wildlife behind his beautiful home with their beloved dogs.
Bill is survived by his children, Robin McKinzie and her husband, Chris, of Lakeway, TX; Stephen Williams and his wife, Kadee, of Mansfield, TX; his grandchildren, Carson (20), Kate (19) and Addison (14); his sister, Sue Breit; his brothers, Bob, Jack, and Rick Williams; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Event Center, 411 Ranch Road 620 South in Lakeway, Texas 78734.
The family wishes to express our gratitude to the staff at Longhorn Village Skilled Nursing Facility located in Austin, TX for its devoted care of Bill during his final days with us. We are blessed for their compassion and handling of his passing in a graceful manner.
