Sylvia Blair passed into God's Heavenly realm in the early morning hours of December 1, 2013. She was born the seventh of eight children in Mountain City, GA., on August 15, 1928, to Effie and Andrew Jackson Burton. Upon graduation from high school, Sylvia headed to Atlanta. She was a small-town girl with big-city dreams and wasted no time pursuing them. Very shortly, she had a job at the telephone company and a room in a boarding house with several other young girls. All of those young girls remained life-long friends.
Sylvia ultimately followed a sister and brother-in-law to Houston, TX., further exercising the independence she learned as a young girl from meager beginnings. It was there that she met and married William (Bill) Raymond Lindsey. Sylvia, Bill, and their daughter Laney were a small and loving family for the 16 years prior to Bill's sudden death in 1973. For the next 40 years, Sylvia and Laney solidified their relationship as mother and daughter, friend and confidante.
While in Houston, Sylvia established a successful career with a multinational technology corporation from which she retired in 1993. Sylvia relocated to Austin in 1997 to be close to Laney and her husband, Dennis Thompson. But, let's be honest, she was most interested in being close to her only grandchild, Will (Bill's namesake.) It paid off. Sylvia and Will built a beautiful, mutually-affectionate relationship built on humor and love.
In Austin, Sylvia also made several friends in her neighborhood and church. A lot of her best friends are also Will's: Josh Hicks, Hunter Mathews, and Tyler Pankonein. (She's your "Bob," too, boys!)
Sylvia is survived by her only daughter, Laney Lindsey Thompson, her husband Dennis, and their son, Will. Niece and nephew, Renaye and Paulie Danola (and their cherished family: Nick, Dara, Ari, and Eli), "adopted" daughter, Lisa Coffman (Kelley-Belle, Kyle, and Katie Coffman.)
Our family is forever grateful to the Hospice Of The Hills in Bee Cave, TX. (Irene, Kathleen, Kayleigh, Heidi … no words can express what you've all meant to us!) Sunny, you are both healer and friend! Renaye and Lisa, can't imagine this journey without you!
