Preston Blake Mewhinney, Jr. passed to Heaven from his home Saturday, May 1, 2021. Born July 21, 1941 in San Antonio to Preston B Mewhinney and Mary Miller Mewhinney, he graduated from Jefferson High School in 1959. Preston enlisted in the US Coast Guard for 4 years, worked as chief electrician for Carson & Barnes Circus, hitchhiked Europe and Hawaii, and visited the Virgin Islands. He settled in Austin, worked at UT’s Petroleum Engineering Dept, retiring in 1994.
Preston loved his friends deeply. All gave him the richest joy and happiness of his life from his high school “covey” to his “biker” brothers, to his coworkers and neighbors. We know he will be missed! One of his favorite songs: Willie’s Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground.
Preston is survived by his loving life partner Suzi Perry, her sons River and Forest, and grandchildren Bobby, Lucian, Montana and Hayden. He also leaves behind his loving sister Marilyn Mewhinney Rushing, niece Pamela (Dale) Tidwell, 1 nephew, 2 great nieces, and 1 grand nephew. Preston is united in Heaven with his son Trey, his nephew David G. Thompson, and many lifelong friends and “brothers.”
