Mary Ada Culwell, known to all that loved her as “Mimi,” passed away on September 19, 2022 at the age of 86. Mary was born to Monk and Belle Cox December 25, 1935 in Horatio Arkansas. Mary knew her calling was nursing, and so she moved to Austin, Texas and attended Breckenridge School of Nursing.
On March 22, 1961 Mary married Stanley Culwell. Mary and Stan had three wonderful boys – Stanley Allen, Greg, and Jeff. Mary continued her love of nursing through teaching vocational nursing, OR nursing, and industrial nursing. In later years, Mary loved travelling with Stan in their motorhome, visiting cities all over the country – a love of travel she passed down to her sons and granddaughters. When she wasn’t travelling, she loved doing puzzles, volunteering at the Lakeway Activity Center, going shopping with “the girls,” or just sitting back and watching a “Murder, She Wrote” marathon.
Her final year at Breckenridge, she was quoted in her annual: “Charm strikes the sight and merits win the heart.” This quote is a perfect summation of Mary’s life, and rang true throughout her time here on this earth.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Neola, and her loving husband, Stan. Mary is survived by her three sons, Stanley Allen, Greg, and Jeff, as well as her granddaughters, Kelbi and Clare.
The family will be holding a memorial service in her honor Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 1:00pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Lakeway (411 Ranch Rd 620 S Lakeway, TX 78734.) In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to one of the following organizations that were dear to Mary:
