Lois Willis passed peacefully in her Lakeway home in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Born Lois Jane Files on September 13, 1944, in Freeport, TX to Janette Hicks Files and John T. Files, she was named after her grandmothers, Lois Humphrey Hicks and Janie Coffin Files.
In 1976, Lois married Horace “Earl” Willis, her longtime sweetheart and love of her life. She became the matriarch to Earl’s two daughters, Wyndi and Dana, who eventually grew their own families blessing Lois and Earl with six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She loved them all fiercely and unrelentingly.
Lois was a deeply loving and unwavering wife, sister, aunt, grandmother, stepmother and dear friend to many. She was a music enthusiast, global traveler, lifelong patron of the arts, volunteer and activist. She loved children, especially the babies. She loved training and riding her kindred spirited horse, Mauri, and enjoyed sharing her love of horses with her grandchildren. She loved photography, waterskiing, gardening, swimming and even exercising with Jane Fonda. She loved games and excelled at Chess and Bridge. Lois most enjoyed spending her days surrounded by the people she loved.
Lois was predeceased by her parents, John T. Files, Janette Hicks Files and Barbara Dow Files, sister Shirley Files Schwaller, and granddaughter, Shelby Bean. She is survived by her husband, Earl Willis, stepdaughter Wyndi Willis, sister Franci Files Jarrard and family, the descendants of sister Shirley Files Schwaller, grandchildren Jessyka McLemore and family, Darci Jordan and family, Koty Herrington and family, Carly Jordan, Kelly Bean, Scott Bean and family, Katie Bean Atchley and family, and numerous relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate the love and life of Lois on August 4, 2024, at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home located at 411 Ranch RD 620 S, Lakeway, TX 78734. Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with a reception for family and friends to follow. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, the grieving please honor Lois with a donation to the charity of your choice or to The Shelby Challenge at Dell Children’s Foundation, created in memoriam of her youngest granddaughter.
