Jack Saunders, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away at the age of 86 on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 in Austin, Texas. Jack's departure leaves behind a legacy of love, wit, humor, and unwavering strength that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born in Camden, New Jersey on May 7, 1937 to Ann and Norman Saunders, Jack grew up in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He attended Ridley Township High School and West Chester University. In 1959, Jack married the love of his life Pauline Savastano and they enjoyed 64 years together. They went on to raise their family in West Chester, Pennsylvania. In his retirement years, Jack moved with his wife to Las Vegas, Nevada; Ocala, Florida; Lewes, Delaware; and most recently Austin, Texas.
Jack was an extraordinary individual who led a fulfilling career as a Contracts Administrator in purchasing. His passion for his work was evident in the dedication and determination that was recognized by the companies he worked for, including: Thiokol Corporation, Boeing Vertol, and General Electric Corporation.
In his leisure time, Jack enjoyed watching a wide variety of sporting events, coaching little league football, deep sea fishing, and playing cards. He was a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Flyers and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed his 2003, 50-year Edition Corvette and was a member of the Coastal Corvette Club of Delaware. Jack had many pets over his lifetime, but the one he bonded most closely with was his little dog, Rocco.
As a father, Jack was a pillar of strength, providing unwavering support and encouragement to his children, Ken and Kim. He imparted valuable life lessons to them, emphasizing the importance of hard work, compassion, and the value of family bonds.
Jack's presence as a grandfather and great-grandfather brought immense joy and happiness to the lives of his grandchildren. He took great delight in spending time with them, sharing stories, imparting his wisdom, and creating cherished memories that will live on through generations.
In addition to his family, Jack's friendships were an essential part of his life. He leaves behind a circle of close friends with whom he shared laughter, adventures, and the ups and downs of life. Jack's genuine friendship and loyalty enriched the lives of those he touched.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Pauline as well as his son Ken Saunders, daughter-in-law Gina Mason Saunders, his daughter Kim Saunders, and her partner Phil Kaeser. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Lauren Saunders Klapp and Max Klapp; Codi Hirst and Seve Hirst; Collin Scarpello, Christian Scarpello, Patrick Saunders, Peyton Saunders, and his treasured great-grandchildren Stella, Sterling, and Winnie. His life was also blessed by a loving extended family.
As we say farewell to Jack, we take comfort in knowing that his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched, the values he instilled, and the love he shared.
The family is honoring Jack’s wishes by holding a private family gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Though we mourn the loss of our beloved Jack, we find solace in the knowledge that he has embarked on a new journey, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
