Jimmy was born on October 22, 1952 in Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sonny and Betty Caldwell. Jimmy grew up in Houston before relocating to Central Texas to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He worked for custom homebuilder Tilson Homes for nearly 58 years, beginning as a teenager mowing lawns; he ultimately retired in 2020 as a Senior Vice President of the company.
Jimmy was an avid golfer, and you could find him on one of several courses throughout the Hill Country most weekends, provided the temperature was right. A skilled carpenter and a licensed architect, he designed multiple homes in the Austin area. He was also a gifted luthier, combining his woodworking talents and an eye for design as a creator of custom acoustic guitars under the name Caldwell Guitars.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Gail; sons Scott (Leslie) and Patrick (Emily); granddaughters Elliott and Zoe; sisters Suzy (Joe), Debbie (Ronnie), and Mary (Mike); and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 411 Ranch Road 620 South in Lakeway, TX.
