Herbert George Bench died on March 20, 2012 in Austin, Texas. Herb died only 2 days after his wife passed away on March 18th. but he was never really the same since his son, Terry died 4 years ago. Terry was always his rock.
Herb is survived by 3 sons, Scott, Tim and his wife, Cindy, Kevin and his wife, Sherice and 6 grandchildren, Hollie, Ben, Danny, David, Kilby and Bailey. If Herb ever met someone who wasn't aware how great these grandchildren were, he was never shy about letting them know.
Herbert George Bench was born on September 2, 1917. He attended Southwest Missouri State University on a track Scholarship. He spent the next 30 years in the Air Force. He was a paratrooper during World War II and went on to become one of very few Air Force General Officers who was not a pilot. It was a source of great pride to him that all 4 of his sons graduated from the Air Force Academy.
After the Air Force, Herb went into the Real Estate business in Dallas and Kerrville. He was also known to give golf lessons on the driving range at The Hills to people who didn't even realize he was their instructor.
The family will receive friends at 6:00 p.m. with memorial services following at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis, 411 Ranch Road 620 South in Lakeway, Texas.
