She graduated from Paoli High School and attended business school in Oklahoma City. After graduating from business school, she immediately started work as a secretary at Tinker Air Force Base — the U.S. had already entered World War II. It was at Tinker that she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Chidsey, a handsome lieutenant. They dated and then corresponded regularly while he was stationed in the Pacific. After the end of the war, and his discharge, they were married in March, 1946, and moved to his hometown of Denver, Colorado. There they had two daughters.
In 1962, his career with Exxon resulted in a transfer to Billings, Montana where they lived until his retirement to Lakeway, Texas in 1986. Throughout her life she was always active in the church, the Order of the Eastern Star, in community activities like PTA, Billings Symphony Associates, Billings Art Museum, and as a volunteer for the City of Lakeway. She also played golf and bridge regularly.
She celebrated her 100th birthday in July of this year, surrounded by her loving family, and enjoyed every minute of the occasion. She declined rapidly beginning in September and passed away peacefully at home on October 1st. She is survived by her two daughters: Cindy Vanover and Linda Wishard; four grandchildren - Crystalyn Wishard Steubing, John Vanover, Ross Vanover, Suzanne Vanover Machos, and four great-grandchildren. Her family will miss her so very much but find comfort in knowing that she and Bob are together again.
In lieu of flowers, please give to the Lakeway Church, the ASPCA, or a local charity of your choice.
