Carol Ardell Dengler McClain, a longtime resident of Lakeway, Texas, passed away on February 8th, 2024, at home, at the age of 79. Carol was born June 14, 1944, in Beaumont, Texas, the daughter of Felton Samuel Dengler Jr. and Eva Ardell (Shepherd) Dengler, of Beaumont.
She was preceded in death by Philip Paterson McClain, her husband of 50 years, and her parents, Sam and Ardell.
Carol was married to Phil, the love of her life, on June 15, 1974. They honeymooned at the Dengler family beach house in Bolivar, Texas with their children. The beach house was a place of many happy memories for Carol and her family and friends. Carol loved spending time on the Texas Coast, in Estes Park, Colorado, and anywhere else she was with family and friends.
Carol retired from a long career as an elementary school art teacher but continued her love of creating beautiful art for her whole life. Whether it was her famous painted Easter eggs or countless other arts and crafts, Carol was always working on something that she would make beautiful and she loved to share these creations. Through the years, many of her friends and family have been gifted pieces of art she created and shared with love.
One of Carol’s passions was training her Labrador Retrievers with Phil and the Waterloo Amateur Retriever Club. Carol traveled to many hunt tests with their dog friends and loved spending time with that close-knit community. For many years Carol’s “job” was to prepare and serve lunch at the Waterloo Hunt Tests, and this was a job she relished and did with love every time.
Carol is survived by her children, Jenny and husband James of Dripping Springs; Wade, and wife Susan of Lakeway; Stephen and wife Mary of Georgetown; Gordon and wife Rena of Whitehouse; her siblings, Felton and wife BJ of Charlotte, North Carolina, sister Harriet Tomlinson of Lakeway; her grandchildren Kate, Emily, Zechariah, Jackie, Anna, Justin, Sam, numerous cousins and nieces and nephews and her beloved Labrador Retrievers, Bill and Punkin.
A visitation with family and friends will be Friday, March 15, 2024 from 5-8 PM at Carol's home.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Luke's on the Lake.
