After 81 years full of life, Barbara Kay Beebe died on August 16, 2024. Born May 12, 1943 in Farmville, Virginia, Barbara was the oldest child and only daughter of Helen Elizabeth Sullivan Powers and John Simeon Powers. She grew up with her brothers in Chickasha, Oklahoma where she attended St. Joseph’s High School. She was the head cheerleader and salutatorian of her graduating class, but nothing made her more proud than her Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow award. She attended Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio for college.
Barbara became a successful business woman, owning a sales representative company housed in the Dallas World Trade Center. She married Ward Beebe on December 14, 1972, just three months after meeting. They had 47 wonderful years of marriage before Ward passed away in 2019.
After retiring, she moved to Lakeway, TX to be closer to her daughter, Jenny, and her grandchildren. She immediately became involved in a rich social life which included various positions in community organizations such as Co-Chair of the Fourth of July Parade, President of both the Lakeway Newcomers, as well as the Lakeway Newcomers Alumni Group. She was also a very active member of Lakeway Women’s Club attending and helping to host many events. An active golfer, Barbara won the Clubs of Lakeway Women’s Golf Championship. She enjoyed playing canasta, trivia, and poker with her friends and was a strong supporter of Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka, The Texas Longhorns, The Oklahoma Sooners, Ray Benson, and Garth Brooks.
For the past year she enjoyed her new community at Lake Travis Independent Living, which she referred to as her cruise ship on land. Finding new friends and joy in the activities around her, Barbara was always busy whether enjoying Friday afternoon music or winning Cornhole and trivia competitions.
She is survived by her daughter, Jenny Buschhorn, and son-in-law, Lane Buschhorn, of Austin, TX and granddaughters, Kaylen Buschhorn and Ashley Buschhorn both of Los Angeles, California, along with her brothers, Joe Powers and wife Linda of Oklahoma City, OK and Jim Powers and wife Pam of Advance, NC.
There will be a private service for the family at a later date.
