It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Rhett Walker Smallridge, who ascended to heaven on May 2, 2024 at the young age of 22, while preparing to attend the University of Colorado in Boulder. Born on March 16, 2002, in West Palm Beach, Florida, Rhett was the beloved son of Kelly Smallridge and the late Mark Smallridge. He was also the cherished brother of Grant and Cole Smallridge.
Rhett's story is one of exploration and boundless curiosity. After attending Wellington High School and Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL, Rhett felt the call of adventure. He traveled 46 states in 2022-23, immersing himself in various side jobs along the way. Each day unfolded with its own set of trials and triumphs, all of which he openly shared with his mother, Kelly. Her unwavering support served as a constant source of strength, empowering him to face each obstacle with resilience and determination.
Rhett's life was dedicated to fearlessly living each day to the fullest. Whether he was sharing jokes in class, tearing up the dirt bike tracks, or goofing around on the football field, Rhett embodied the philosophy that life is meant to be enjoyed, not merely endured.
With a heart as vast as the horizon he explored, Rhett held no reservations in befriending those he encountered. From chance encounters in grocery stores to his journey throughout the US, Rhett's genuine kindness and charm endeared him to all. He championed the underdog and was always there to lend a helping hand to those who needed it most no matter how random or unexpected the situation.
In his passing, Rhett is reunited with loved ones who preceded him in death: his father, Mark Smallridge; maternal grandmother, Mary Anders; paternal grandmother, Phyllis Smallridge; paternal grandfather, Denny Smallridge; and Aunt Pam Thompson. He leaves behind a tight-knit family that includes his devoted mother, Kelly Smallridge-Kirby (Rex); his brothers Grant and Cole; his maternal grandfather Larry Anders (Monica) and his paternal step-grandmother Lee Tittle Smallridge; Aunt Robin Christensen (Todd); Uncle Chris Anders (Cheryl); Aunt Lynn Smallridge-Garner (Van) and cousins: Sidney and Bradley Christensen, Kaitlyn and Jake Anders; Michael Thompson (Amy), Lauren Thompson-Herzog (Anthony), numerous second cousins, friends and his dogs Cesar, Molly and Mary.
Though Rhett's physical presence may be absent, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May we honor his memory by embracing life with the same fearlessness, joy, and compassion that he so effortlessly embodied. Rest in peace, dear Rhett, knowing that your laughter will echo through eternity, a reminder of the light you brought to our lives.
A gathering of friends and family for Rhett will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024 starting at 10:30 AM at Christ Fellowship Church in Royal Palm Beach, FL, 9905 Southern Blvd, Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
