82, of Lake Worth, FL passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Friday, September 23, 2011.
Born in Atlantic City, NJ on August 23, 1929 to Jerry and Barbara (Betty) Broz. The Broz family arrived in Lake Worth, FL in 1947, and established the Famous Restaurant which was family owned and operated until 1974. In 1976, John along with his parents and brother Ed, opened and operated the Bohemian Garden Restaurant until he retired in 1987. He was a past president of the Florida Restaurant Association Chapter 2. He had a distinguished 33 year career in Active Duty and Reserves in the United States Navy, retiring with the rank of Captain, served as an Attache to NATO, commanding officer in an all officers unit in Miami, and was past president of the Reserves Officers Association. He received his MBA degree from the University of Florida in 1952. He attended the Naval War College in Newport, RI, and earned a Doctorate Degree in Business from Palm Beach Atlantic University. John taught Introduction to Business and Hospitality Administration at Palm Beach State College. Upon his retirement from the restaurant business in 1987, John dedicated his life to his passion for Humanitarian causes. He founded and was president of Humanity Resource Development Inc., which served to benefit the welfare of underdeveloped nations. He was one of the founding directors of Homeland Security's Defense Coalition. John was a devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served to help with many causes for the needy and was a Eucharistic Minister. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
John enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling the world, and being a Humanitarian. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean of 42 yrs. in 1997. His memory will be cherished by his loving children, John J. Jr., (Lisa) of Lake Clarke Shores, FL, Jerry of St. Michaels, MD, Jeff (Andrea) of Tampa, FL, Betty Jean O'Neil (Bob) of Pittsfield, MA, Micki Cohen (Jay) of Boca Raton, FL, Joe of Lake Worth, FL, and Jenny of Lake Worth, Fl., 12 grandchildren and 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Edward Broz and his sister Lillian Pannullo.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Sacred Heart Church, Lake Worth, FL. Interment will follow at Lake Worth Memory Gardens. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dorsey-E.
