George Nicholas Amigone, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at his home in Boynton Beach, Florida. Born on November 10, 1924 in Buffalo, NY to Girard and Frances (Fox) Amigone, George was third oldest of seven children. George served his country in WWII [1943-1946] in the Army’s 443rd Anti Aircraft Artillery (AAA) Battalion and 359th AAA Searchlight Battalion. George’s division was active in the European theater, having fought in the Battle of the Bulge, the Battle of Remagen and participated in the occupation of Germany following the war. In 2014, his invitation to the Honor Flight for WWII veterans became a celebrated memory. George began his career after the war as a construction apprentice before starting his own company building houses in Buffalo, NY. George continued his construction career in Northern Virginia before retiring to Florida. George loved traveling, having seen much of the United States, England and Europe. He volunteered at the Delray Beach 100’ Christmas Tree for many years, loving to see joy on children’s faces. George never met a stranger—living life to the fullest, he was always quick with a smile or to lend a helping hand. In 2017, he and his wife were presented special recognition for their service to Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA) at their 50th wedding anniversary celebration. He never lost his sense of humor and was often fond of sharing jokes, life stories and life lessons (“George-isms” as the family calls them). George loved his family and took great joy in his six grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years: Janet Diane (Gessert) Amigone; along with four children: Eileen (Matt) Showalter, Kim (Doug) Shedd, Steve (Sarah) Amigone and Bill (Leila) Amigone; six grandchildren: Jackson, Dylan, Genevieve, Jeremy, David and George; and four siblings: Sis, Nick, Florence and Chris as well as many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives. Memorial services for immediate family will be held at a private service in 2018. George will be interred at the South Florida National Cemetery in Palm Beach County.
