Age 67 of West Palm Beach, FL passed away November 30, 2021. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Belinda; devoted children: Fred (Michele) Grunwald, Heidi (Jason) Moore and Carl (Melissa) Grunwald; adoring grandchildren: Freddy (Jill), Brooke, Adam, Cassidie, Zach and Aaron and the sweetest great grandson, David. Fred is, also, survived by his brothers and sister: Kurt (Robin) Grunwald, Carl (Cheryl) Grunwald, JoAnne Mangold, Johnny (Tammy) Grunwald; and several nieces and nephews.
After Fred retired from Publix Supermarkets where he worked as a Meat Manager for 25 years, he was able to dedicate his time to what he was most passionate about, reptiles. Some might say he was a local hero, and others would insist. Fred was a well-known local reptile expert. He has studied and handled reptiles and amphibians throughout his entire life. He has traveled to many exotic locations including Belize as well as other Central American countries to study and explore many of the species of animals that he protects at Crocodile Corner.
Along with his wife, Belinda, Fred owned and operated Crocodile Corner, a well-known animal/reptile rescue located in the acreage in Royal Palm Beach. Fred spent his entire life learning about and educating others about the well-being and the importance of the kinds of animals that other people would run away from. Fred was genuinely kind and welcomed everyone to be a part of everything he did. People flocked to Fred to laugh, learn and love. It’s never a surprise to hear someone say, “Fred was my best friend.”
A gathering for visitation will be held on Monday, December 6th. Visitation will be at 3:00pm and the service/ceremony will be at 4:00pm at Dorsey - E. Earl Smith Funeral Home. For more information go to: www.dorsey-smithmemorygardens.com
