Carina Batchelor was born on November 12, 1982 in Charleston, South Carolina and passed away on September 8, 2020 in Lake Park, Florida. Beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin and dear friend. Simply put, Carina was a very unique person from the time she was small. She was a great story teller as a child, although she never got the plot quite right! She loved The Wizard of Oz, watching it repeatedly and then sweetly, daily, recounting the story front to back, back to front or middle first. She was fascinated by weather – storms, hurricanes, weather events -- an unusual obsession she shared with her husband Chris, along with an intense interest in cultivating orchids. She loved orchids so much that when they decided to marry, she and Chris had an orchid themed wedding at the Orchid Society in 2009. What a great party!
Carina was incredibly perceptive and deeply insightful, with a wonderful brain topped by what her daughter Layla referred to as “awesome hair.” It was always satisfying to have a deep conversation or a meandering, days long text conversation, punctuated by her insight and humour. Deeply loving, she knew she wanted to be a mother from a very young age, and totally adored Layla and Dalton. Carina broadened their minds, putting her incisive research skills to use in helping her children excel. Layla went to not one, but two, Storytelling sessions every week once it was clear that she was the most engaged little girl in the room. Carina made learning fun, turning education into the best kind of game and creative endeavour, which makes total sense for someone who had at one time wanted to be a child psychologist. She was a wonderful motivator and guide.
Always a voracious reader immersed in a book, Carina’s fictional obsessions were quite specific. Vampires, zombies and the paranormal fascinated her, along with series like Game of Thrones and Twilight, so it seems fitting that she and Chris spent a long period of domestic habitation with pet snakes. At the same time, she loved animals, with a particular affection for cats, from Mittens to Baby Kitty.
She loved the cold, the snow, pancakes, Coke, Reese’s Peanut Butter cups, green bean casserole and the mountains, always going along as a real individualist. She was the person you wanted on your team, in your corner, at your side, thinking about you, offering wisdom, support and love. We will love you forever, Carina, and you will always be with every one of us helping to guide our way.
