Margaret J. Smith

Margaret J. Smith, aged 88, of Woodland, went to be with her Lord on June 7, 2009, while surrounded by her family. She was born on December 12, 1920 in Castleton Township to Homer and Gertrude Rowlader. She lived her entire life in Woodland, and had attended Wellman Country School and graduated from Woodland High School in 1940. Margaret married her high school sweetheart, John J. Smith, on September 8, 1942. She devoted her life to raising their seven children, gardening, canning, quilting, sewing, crocheting, and reading her Bible. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, John; sons, Thomas (Lynda) Smith, Dennis (Kathy) Smith, Gary (Debbie) Smith, and David Smith; daughters, Jeanne (Mark) Shook, Janet Adams, and Joanne (Rick) King; sister, Midge Kidder; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9 at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10 at the Lakewood United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park. The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to Barry Community Hospice.
