Douglas James Travis

Douglas James Travis, age 57, of Woodland, Michigan born on December 23, 1963 was welcomed into our Lord and Saviors arms on Friday, March 19, 2021 at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He courageously fought a 4-year battle with Mantle B-Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. We are consoled in knowing Doug is no longer in pain and is whole again. Doug attended Hastings Area Schools and graduated from Hastings High School in 1982. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, father, husband, grandfather, and friend. Doug most loved being called Dad and Opa.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 21 years Deanna, daughters Oakley (Terry) Schneider of Pewamo, Beret Miller (Karsten Price) of Lake Odessa, and Gracie Travis of Woodland. Grand children Hazel, Herman, and Langston. Father Jasper (Sharon) Travis of Hastings, sister, Janice(Brian)VanAman of Hastings, brothers Jerry (Kate) Travis of Bonne Terre, Missouri, and Bryan(Lisa)Travis of Hastings. Nieces and nephews include: Amber, Lindsay, Ashley, BJ, Amelia and Meg. He is also survived by Anita(Jerry)Lyons and dear cousins Rick(Lisa) Cullers and Donald Cullers. The circle of friends that have loved Doug that are most deserving to be included are too numerous to list.

Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Arlita Ann Travis, niece, Amy Lynn VanAman, sister-in-law Gloria Travis, grandparents Cornelious and Viola Cappon and Wilson and Bonnie Travis.

Doug was a devoted family man that enjoyed spending his spare time with his children and grandchildren. He loved to ride his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle and the loud pipes could be heard miles away. He also enjoyed spending time on Podunk Lake with the Donovan family prior to moving to a small hobby farm in Freeport. He also spent many hours in the barn having heart to heart talks with his daughters trying to solve the world’s problems. He enjoyed attending Yutzy Auctions with his wife and his dear friends the Trudgeon family. Doug loved his family trips to Alabama to spend the week by the ocean with another dear friend Trudy and her family. He also loved the camping trips to Irons with the Snore family, Cherie, Mary and Neil. Doug proudly attended band concerts, choir concerts, volleyball and track events. He was extremely proud of his girls!

Honoring Doug’s wishes he has donated his body to science with the Anatomical Gift of Life Program at The University of Michigan in hopes of getting closer to a cure for all types of cancers.

A celebration of life and service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, April 17th at Cedar Creek Bible Church in Delton, Michigan with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Lymphoma Society or Locust Grove Amish Community School.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Faith Hospice, especially Annie, Lyndsey, Rita, Dewey and Beth. Dr. Channing Finkbeiner, Dr. Decker and Leslie from Hudsonville Mercy Health also Latha Sree Polavaram MD Hemotology-Oncology. We would also like to thank Flexfab, LLC, Family Dentistry of Caledonia and Medema Endodontics for constantly wrapping their arms around our family since the diagnosis for Doug.
