Mr. Van Wormer was born on September 21, 1932 in Chocolay Township, Michigan, the son of late John and Rose Van Wormer. Known as Van, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country until he was honorable discharged in 1959. He later married the love of his life Jewell Parker and was a loving and dedicated husband for 39 years. Van was a Sheet Rocker and a member of the Wisconsin Carpenters’ Local 1573 for 30+ years. When Van was not piddling around the yard, he could always be found in his garden, picking blackberries or listening to Hank Williams (whom he provided security for during his concerts) on his radio. He will always be known as a proud father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
Mr. Van Wormer is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jewell Parker Van Wormer, Five brothers, two sisters, grandson Aaron Lee Salinas and great grandson Adrien Lee Benitez. He is survived by his brother, Wesley Van Wormer of New Berlin, Wisconsin and sister Josephine Macki of Marquette Wisconsin. Two daughters, Vanita Salinas Hudspeth (Daniel Hudspeth) of Ragley and Annette Van Wormer Langrick (William Langrick) of Menasha, Wisconsin. Grand children: Annette Salinas, Adam (Jimmy) Salinas, Anthony Salinas, Clyde (Chummer) Weber, Jaret Weber, Antionette Langrick, and Tyler Langrick, great grandfather of 12 and many nieces and nephews.
His celebration of life will be at Creel Memorial Chapel on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 11am.
His best piece of advice was “Don’t take any wooden nickels.”
