He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Gloria Anne Abate Covert, his parents; Farley Leroy Covert, Sr. of Mark Tree, Arkansas and Myrtle Chesnutt Covert of Verda, Louisiana, and his brother; Terry Covert.
He is survived by his brother; Wayne Covert, his children; Darren Covert and wife Glenda, and Derek Covert and wife Anne, his grandchildren; Cade, Carmen, Aiden, Gianna, and Julia. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Leroy, as everyone knew him, loved his wife and his children.
Even after 22 years after Gloria’s death, he never remarried and she remained the love of his life. Everyone said he spoke of her with such affection and love. He was a hard working and caring man. He enjoyed the outdoors whether he was hunting, fishing and camping or spending time outside, especially in his garden. Leroy was loved by so many people and readily shared his good sense of humor and love for others. He did not know a stranger and was always prepared to lend a helping hand.
Leroy worshipped at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where he volunteered his time for many years at the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel and with the St. Vincent de Paul Ministry.
Leroy was truly a man of service in every aspect of his life. He served in the Navy and spent a two year tour of duty in Vietnam. When he returned from the Navy, he joined the Lake Charles Fire Department and retired after 30 years as a District Chief. He remained proud of his military service and his community service.
He was most proud of his sons and his grandchildren. Grand paw loved to go fishing with his buddy Cade, his oldest grandson, and he looked forward to seeing all of his grandchildren with whom he showered affection.
