He was employed and retired by Cities Service after 40 years of dedicated service. He served in the Navy for two years from 1944-1946 during World War II. He was involved in the invasion of Iwo Jima “bloodiest battle of World War II”. He served aboard the PC-779 “Mechanicsburg”. The PC’s, patrol crafts, which were submarine hunters, protected the battle ships while they bombarded the island of Iwo Jima. They were also involved in lining up the landing craft for the invasion. He raised his seven children in the Baptist faith, and was a great Christian example to his family. Christon had a love for gardening and took meticulous care of his lawn. He definitely had a “green thumb”. He was a very stoic, humble man who had an unconditional love for his family and his cat and dog, “Missy and Freckles”. Christon is the last of a generation who kept life simple, and had the utmost respect from his family and friends. He enjoyed family gatherings during the holidays and special occasions. Christon lived life to the fullest for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He would soften anyone’s heart with his kind and gentle soul, baby blue eyes, and his sweet smile. He was a caretaker for his mother, wife, and sister. He is celebrating in heaven today with the love of his life, Margaret.
