Gilbert Royce McCombs

August 15, 1931 – March 31, 2025

Gilbert "Gil" Royce McCombs passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025. He was born on August 15, 1931, in Brownsville, KY, to the late Milton and Maude McCombs.

A proud Marine veteran, Gil dedicated his life to service, both in uniform and in his community. He was a devoted Mason for 48 years with Valley-Daylight Lodge #511. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hiking and volunteering at Jefferson Memorial Forest. Professionally, he was a dedicated realtor, but his true passion was his family. Gil was the best grandfather, ensuring that the memories he created with his loved ones would last a lifetime.

Gil was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years and the mother of their two sons, Sandy McCombs, who passed in September 2001. Later in life, he was fortunate to find love again with Patty Kelley McCombs, with whom he shared 20 wonderful years until her passing in November 2023. He is now reunited with his parents, siblings, and loved ones who went before him.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Greg McCombs (Becky) and Mark McCombs (Linda); grandchildren, Lauren McCombs (Scott), Alli McCombs (JD), Keri McCombs (Kyle), and Jamie Best (Chris); and great-grandchildren, Taylor Adams, Claire Rolph, Braverly Rolph, Gwendolynn Rolph, Luke Goodman, Elliot Best, and Cade Best. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family and many dear friends.

Gil lived a life full of love and adventure. His legacy of warmth and generosity will live on in all who knew him.

A visitation for Gil will be held Friday, April 4, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Covenant Church, 909 W Jefferson St, La Grange, KY 40031, followed by a Funeral service beginning at 1pm.

Burial to follow at Bethany Cemetery in Louisville.
