Ray came into this world as an unexpected gift to two amazing parents, Homer and Faye Neighbors, on May 14, 1970. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he soon traveled to Crete and Taiwan with his family that was devoted to our nation and the United States Air Force. Once his family returned to the States, he explored the world on the streets of Sivell Acres and Hillstreet in LaGrange. He learned many life lessons through his time on the wrestling team at Troup High School and developed many friendships that have lasted a lifetime.
He began his career as a pressman at Shorewood Packaging in LaGrange and was proud to be a part of Westrock in Lithia Springs at the end of his career. His skills and talent on the press were a perfect complement to his incredible work ethic and desire to enhance the success of his industry.
Outside of work, Ray enjoyed riding with the top down and the music high. He was an avid fan of all things Auburn and a long-standing supporter of the Atlanta Braves. His favorite athletes were his sons and playing baseball and golf with them provided him with some of his greatest memories. Behind Ray’s bright blue eyes was a soul filled with humor and generosity. He also was one of the rare people who still enjoyed talking on the phone with friends, often while perfecting his skills as a Grill Master.
Authenticity was a theme of Ray’s life. He believed in loyalty and friendship above all else, and those who were loved by him knew the power behind his word. Although he fought hard to remain with those he loved, cancer proved to be too great a challenge and he passed away unexpectedly from complications on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023 at home in the arms of his father.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Faye Neighbors, who has welcomed him with open arms. Ray is survived by his three beloved sons; Gage Neighbors, Justin Neighbors, and Kevin Neighbors; his father, Homer Neighbors; and siblings Randy and Jody Neighbors and Rhonda and Steve McClellan. Uncle Ray was also incredibly proud of Nikki and Ben Hickman, Matthew and Amanda McClellan, Michael and Erin McClellan, Zach Neighbors and his great nephews, Dylan and Kole. He leaves behind a score of friends that he considered family and was grateful to have found the Love he wished to spend the remainder of his life with, Amy Guinn.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 18th, in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in LaGrange at 6:30pm. The memorial will be followed by a “Celebration of Life” at Pizza Villa, with a playlist provided by Ray.
