Mr. Hadden was born at Gibson, Georgia, on March 30, 1929. He graduated from Glascock County High School as Valedictorian in 1945, and attended Middle Georgia College and the University of Georgia. Mr. Hadden was a member of the National Guard, 20050th, Augusta, Georgia, where he trained as a combat medic.
Mr. Hadden was employed by the Western Auto Company from 1947 until 1964, and owned and operated his own Western Auto store in LaGrange from 1964-1994. He was known affectionately as "Mr. John" by his many customers and friends. He worked as an agent for Life of Georgia Insurance from 1996-2002. Mr. Hadden was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church, where he served for many years as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He also served as a deacon at Oakside Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of LaGrange. He was a founding member of LaGrange Academy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. E.H. Hadden and Ruby Hadden Serre of Augusta, Georgia, his sister, Miss Helen Hadden, of Augusta, Georgia, and his brother, Mr. Thomas Hadden of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mr. Hadden is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frankie Mathis Hadden, and his children, Wayne and Sallie Alford Hadden, Wendell and Shelia Morris Hadden, and Lynn Hadden, of LaGrange, and his grandchildren, Josh Hadden of LaGrange, Luke Hadden of Denver, Colorado, Saralynne Hadden Evans of Woodstock, Georgia, Jake Hadden of Atlanta, Georgia, Will Hadden of Nashville, Tennessee, and John Christian Evans of Mount Berry, Georgia. Other survivors include his sister, Ollie Ruth (Percy) Wanner and her children, Dr. and Mrs. Greg (Debra) Erena, Judy Wanner, and Christina (Roger) Wolfgram, niece Joan (Frank) Lingale of Salt Lake City, Utah, and nephew Roger Hadden of Salt Lake City, Utah, Olin and Wilma Mathis of Gibson, Georgia, and niece Laverne (Patrick) Booton and great nephew Ian Booton of Gibson, Georgia. He is also survived by his aunts, Mrs. Dahlia Hadden of Stapleton, Georgia, and Mrs. Evelyn (Ray) Smith of St. Georgia, Utah and great niece, Teri Malan and family.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, January 5th, 2014, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel, LaGrange, GA at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends following the service.
