Mr. Algie Oliver Parker, 95, of LaGrange, GA passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Hospice LaGrange. Mr. Parker was born December 2, 1920 in Kemper County, MS to the late Edward Ewell Parker and Mittie Lee Brown Parker. He received his Master’s Degree from Auburn University, served as teacher and coach in Mississippi for three years before moving to LaGrange, where he was at LaGrange High School for eight years. He was the first principal of Westside Jr. High School for 16 years and served as Principal in Warner Robins before retiring. Mr. Parker was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square, where he was a Deacon, Department Director, Adult Sunday School Teacher, also involved with the Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, and the Senior Choir. He was instrumental in organizing and coaching the first Little League Program in LaGrange. Mr. Parker served on the Citizen’s Review Panel, Department of Family and Children’s Board for 17 years. He was highly involved with the Active Life Center, a member of the Retired Troup County Teacher’s Association, NTEA, AARP, and the American Association of Retired People. Mr. Parker proudly served his country in the Army Air Force, during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Wilson Parker. Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Ruby Parker; sons, Alan Oliver (Carolyn) Parker and Larry Vernon (Lynne) Parker; step children, Bishop Timothy (Carissa) Lamb, Sharon (Bryan) Kilgore, step son-in-law, Terry (Gail) White; grandchildren, Danton Parker, Daphne (Pete) Trizzino, Alan Reshard (Christina) Parker, Suzanne (Craig) Cooper; step grandchildren, Kim (Brandon) Scott, Jason (Crystal) White, Christy (Steve) Rowe, Jonathon (Allison) Lamb, Steven (Misty) Lamb, Jennifer (Mark) Murrel, Ben Kilgore, Amber Kilgore; great grandchildren, Ethan Parker, Molly Parker, Anna Cooper, Eric Cooper, Zac Parker, Grace Trizzino, Anna Trizzino, John Parker Trizzino; step great grandchildren, Colby Scott, Anna Scott, McKenzie Murphy, Carson Murphy, Hannah Murrel, Dylan Lamb, Peyton Lamb, Tyler Dollar, Taylor Dollar; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. The Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be 11:00am Friday, November 11, 2016 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Rev. Cade Farris, Dr. Paul Baxter and Bishop Timothy Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice LaGrange or the Bereavement Committee at First Baptist Church on the Square.
