He was born in Sioux City, IA on December 27, 1933 to Harry L. and Ruby Dyer Davis. He had one sister, Helen Davis Shawver. Bill spent his early years in Whiting, IA before moving to Wichita, KS in 1951 with his family.
He attended elementary and junior high school in Whiting, IA before he and his family moved to Wichita, KS. He attended East High School in Wichita, where he was the starting halfback for the East High Blue Aces football team playing for coach Stub Mayo.
Bill served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp., in the U.S. Navy, and in the U.S. Air Force. Bill was a proud veteran of the Vietnam war. After leaving the military and until his retirement he was employed as a Logistic Support Specialist at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command on Point Loma in San Diego, CA.
Bill was an avid lover Tai Chi and Yoga. He enjoyed taking walks around Point Loma where he lived for many years. He also loved reading the newspaper with his windows and front door open to enjoy the cool Point Loma breeze. He also loved spending time with his San Diego family. Bill always knew how to bring a smile to anyone’s face.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and sister Helen. He is survived by his nephews and niece, Matthew Shawver (Stacia), Susan Shawver, Christopher Shawver (Connie) and grandnephew, Jonathan Shawver, all of Wichita, KS, by his longtime friend, Shige, her daughters Carol (Todd) Powers of Lemon Grove, Ca, Joanna Kuehl of Riverside, CA, grandchildren Courtni (Jacob) Navarro of San Antonio, TX, Brittni (Jae) McGuire, Riley and Kailey Powers of Lemon Grove, Sarah, John and William Kuehl of Riverside, CA, and great-grandchildren Jaxon and Lisanna.
A private service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, CA.
