He was born in McAllen, Texas to Raymond Lee and Mary Gertrude McCarty November 27, 1949.
Johnny grew up in Harlingen, Texas and went to Harlingen High School, class of 1967. He then went on to earn a degree in business accounting at the University of Texas Pan-Am, class of 1973.
He started his career as a computer comptroller shortly thereafter with Cameron County. He met, then married, the love of his life, Louise Williams, on October 29, 1975. Johnny adopted her two children and raised them as his own.
He went on to start his own business John Lee & Associates. He successfully and continually ran his business until retirement in 2016. He held a position on the Board of Directors for the Cameron County Drainage District as President from 1999-2023.
When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed time in the outdoors fishing, hunting and taking his grandchildren along on business trips. The family will always cherish the memories made together on family vacations, especially at The Sandcastle on South Padre Island. His love for animals was inspiring. You could always find him with a dog (or cat) trailing behind him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond Lee McCarty; mother, Mary Gertrude McCarty; and dear wife, Louise McCarty
Johnny is survived by his loving family - Daughter, Diana McCarty (Dale); Son, Mike McCarty (Katie); Granddaughters, Candice Esquivel (Rene); Michelle McCarty; Kaytlyn Montes (Rogelio); Grandson, Joshua Santillan (Samantha); five great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. We take comfort in that he is at peace and reunited with his loving wife, relatives and pets.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Rio Grande Valley Humane Society, 1106 Markowsky Ave., Harlingen, TX 78550.
