There were broken hearts and inconsolable tears when we learned that our most precious sister in Christ, Eloina Perez’s battle against the horrible scourge that is pancreatic cancer had ended. She fought bravely and although initially she experienced the very human feelings of fear, anger and doubt; her talks with Fr. Eka and Fr Robert helped her cope with and accept her suffering. Her friends who had battled cancer and those still fighting this horrible disease visited, prayed for her and with her and Eloina’s family is very grateful for their companionship and prayers. Her medical team at Knapp Medical Center, Dr. Romero, Dr. Ghaddar, Dr. Farray and Dr. Amaya, her personal physician, made her last week on earth tolerable because they gave her truly professional and loving care. The family sincerely thanks them for taking such good care of Eloina and are thankful that Eloina had the opportunity to thank them personally.
Eloina was born in Donna, Texas on July 29, 1950 and departed for her heavenly home on August 12, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents Alisandro and Velia Perez, her brother Alisandro Jr. known affectionately as Gallo and her sister Glendora. She is survived by her sisters Diana De Leon (Joe) and Ilenda, whom we all call Bibi, Ortiz (Arturo O); brothers Rene Perez (Pat) and Rolando Perez(Marilou). Also surviving are her beloved nieces and nephews, Erica, J.C., Michael (Ben), Christopher, Raquel, Roel, Kristine, Iliana and Eric and grandniece, Annaleize.
Also surviving are her extended family, Elda Cruz, Rosie Escobar, Noemi Cruz, Cris Cruz, Cindy Badillo, Robert Cruz and Danny Cruz. Preceding Eloina in death were Moises Cruz+ (Grampy) and her BFF Elida L. Cruz+ ( Nanny), Ricky Cruz+ and Herby Cruz+.
Eloina’s vibrant personality attracted many and her very confident and outspoken opinions, at times infuriated some. Her opinions came from her sense of loyalty to God and family and her sense of fairness and equality. She loved the Dallas Cowboys and did not tolerate one bad word spoken against them! She loved traveling and was blessed with a job as a medical consultant which required her to travel the country and she came home and shared hilarious stories and encounters.
There were so many sides to Eloina and countless stories as shared by her many Facebook friends and those who have visited and called. We thank all of you. Let us keep her memory alive by sharing those stories and praying and encouraging those battling cancer to continue to fight. We pray for a cure.
Eloina wished to be cremated because she said she didn’t want anybody staring at her! Heavenly Grace Funeral Home of La Feria is in charge of arrangements. The public is invited to pay their respects to the family at Heavenly Grace on Friday, August 16, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. A mass to celebrate Eloina’s life will take place at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Donna on Saturday, August 17, 2019. Please join us in thanking God for the beautiful earthly life of Eloina Perez who now rejoices with the angels and saints in God’s kingdom of heaven.
