Obituary of Richard Dale "Dick" Conwell
Richard Dale “Dick” Conwell, 89, of Kokomo, passed away on November 25, 2015 at Wellbrooke of Kokomo. He was born on November 7, 1926, in Howard County, the son of Ward and Edith (Fye) Conwell. Dick served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. On June 30, 1950, Dick married Vera L. (Miller) Conwell, and she passed away July 4, 2013. He was retired from Haynes International after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Haynes, the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He and his wife Vera enjoyed spending winters in Florida. Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, bowling, and was an avid sports fan especially, the Cubs, the Colts, the Pacers, and IU Basketball. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by his family and friends. Dick is survived by his children, Diana Conwell Phillips, Richard (Ruth) Conwell, II, and Cheryl (Ron) Stigger; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Evelyn O’Banion; and niece, Mary Lou Conwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Linda Perkins; two brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren. A funeral service to celebrate Dick’s life will be held at 2pm on Monday, November 30, 2015 at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy and the Kokomo V.F.W. Visitation will be held from 11am to 2pm on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
