Nancy Henson

Nancy Jane (Oaks) Bowers-Henson, 77, of Kokomo passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018. She was born in Kokomo, Indiana May 12, 1941 to Newton and Tisha Oaks. Nancy was raised by her uncle and aunt, Lee and Mabel Wooley, and she grew up in Kokomo. She worked for a while with Syndicate Sales before becoming a homemaker. One of her fondest memories was testing out roller skates for her father when she was a child. Nancy was a member and treasurer of the Alligator CB club and later in life a member of the North Woods Cooking club. She always enjoyed camping at Luken’s Lake and playing bingo. As she got older, Nancy enjoyed needle point, crocheting, coloring and making dolls. Mostly she loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, always looking forward to holiday get-togethers. In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her grandfather, William Oaks; siblings, Ruth Oaks-Timmons, Daniel Oaks, Bill Oaks, Alice Boring and Mary Ilean; husbands James Bowers and Virgil R. Henson; sons, Michael R. Henson and Patrick Henson; and daughter-in-law, Kathleen S. Henson. Nancy is survived by her brothers, Bob Oaks and James Wooley; children, Henry “Hank” (Mandie) Henson, Danny J. (Sue) Henson, Tammy J. (Larry W. Quinlan) Henson, Billy D. (Pam Stover) Henson, Patricia A. (John D. McCracken) Henson and Samuel Bowers; grandchildren, Trisha Ray, Bethany Ray, Becca Ray, Mariah Henson, Andrea Mosier, Paytan Henson, Michael R. Henson, II, Angela Burnworth, Tony Cottrell, Shanna Henson, Brooke Kratz, Justin Henson, Amber Henson, Andrea Henson and Zachary Kite; 19 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Family will receive friends Monday, June 18 from 3:30pm-6:00 pm at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. Service to follow at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family of Nancy Henson to assist with the cost of final expenses.
