Doyne “Russell” Bennett, 84, Kokomo, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014, at Howard Regional Hospital. He was born November 13, 1930, in Rector, Arkansas, to Willie G. and Ruth E. (Cagle) Bennett. He married Wanda (Graham) Bennett, and she preceded him in death on February 28, 2004.
He served in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952 during the Korean War. While serving, he earned a Purple Heart and six Bronze Campaign Stars. He later worked as a truck driver for Landstar for 60 years.
He is survived by step-daughter, Gail (Neale) Dugger, Kokomo; step-sons James Miniear, Macy, IN and Dennis Bennett, Kokomo; one brother, D.L. Bennett, Arkansas; and one sister, Faye Bennett, Oregon.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one step-son, Steven Miniear; and two brothers, O.J. Bennett, and Douglas “Glen” Bennett.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with military honors and flag presentation. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to assist with arrangements.
