David Paul Roberts, 81, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at his home in Kokomo while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Green County, Indiana on December 20, 1935 to the late Ernest and Ilene (Smith) Roberts.
Following high school, David enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Rushmore during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged from the military, David went to work for what is now Haynes International, where he worked for 30 years before retiring in 1987.
David was married to Edna (Jameson) Roberts on March 23, 1978 in Kokomo, and she survives. They have been very active members with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Kokomo, taking Bible studies and Revelation seminars all around the country. With the church, David has also served as an elder and Sabbath School Teacher, and taught prophecy seminars for several years. David also enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, gardening, and hiking trails in the woods around southern Indiana.
In addition to his wife, David is survived by his children, Teresa (Carl) Patterson, Cindy (Brian) Smith, Paula (Ray) Newton, Shelly (Mark) Northam, Lynda (Ed) Rowell, and Mark (Denise) Harshman; and brothers, Keith Roberts and Glen (Glena) Roberts. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Roberts and Claude “Cookie” Roberts; a sister, Edith “Sis” Applegate; and an adopted daughter, Cathy Maskey.
There will be a funeral service for David on Tuesday, September 5th at 11:00 am at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Sycamore street in Kokomo. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in David’s name may be made to the Kokomo Seventh-Day Adventist Church to help pave their parking lot, which was very important to David.
