Thomas Quinn Rhyne, age 76, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018, following a three year battle with lymphoma. Tom was a native of Gastonia, NC, and graduated from Frank L Ashley High School in 1959 before receiving a B.S. in Business from Western Carolina College in 1963. During his school days, Tom was active on the football, baseball, and track teams. He moved to Knoxville in 1977. Throughout his 40 year career in insurance, Tom worked in sales, claims, and management. He enjoyed life with friends, family, and the community; having spent many years working with Junior Achievement and Civitan International, at one time serving as president of the Knoxville Civitan Downtown Club. Later in life, he enjoyed fishing and woodworking, particularly restoring old horse carriages and sleighs. Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vickie Dalton Rhyne, two daughters, Donna Grey Rhyne (Paul Parker) and Emily Rhyne Herald, and two grandchildren, Christian Thomas Herald and Shepard Quinn Kimery. The family wishes to express gratitude to those who provided compassionate care during Tom's fight with lymphoma, including Dr. Ketan Hira, Avalon Hospice, and everyone at Hanna Cancer Associates and the UT Cancer Institute. Receiving of friends will begin at 2:00 pm with a remembrance service to follow at 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 9th, 2018, at Berry Highland West, 9913 Sherrill Blvd., in Knoxville. Graveside inurnment will be private to the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knoxville Civitan Club, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the UT Cancer Institute, or a charity of the donor's choice.
