Sandra Mahan King passed away peacefully at home after a brief battle with cancer on Sunday, May 26, 2024. She was born in August 1944 to Elbert & Nina Mahan of Whitwell, TN and grew up in Chattanooga where she was called Sandy. After graduating from high school, Sandy attended Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Knoxville, TN. Two years later, she married John Thomas (Tom) King in December 1964 and welcomed the first of three daughters in November. She loved her family and thanked the Lord every day that most lived in Knoxville. She lived according to a favorite verse, Ephesians 4:32: “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
Sandy leaves a huge absence in her large loving family, especially for her husband, Tom King; their daughters, Amy (Tom) Crawford, Lori (Chuck) Baine, Katie (Andrew) Rymer; their grandchildren, Chelcie (Mike) Morrison, Drew Crawford, Addie (Carter) Coughlin, Sam Crawford, Courtney (Trevor) Brown, Charlie (Natalie) Baine, Natalie (Jace) Smith, Lauren Rymer and Bennett Rymer; as well as eight great-grandchildren. Sandy was preceded in death by her brother, James, and will be greatly missed by her sister and best friend, Donna Mahan Beard. Her family is grateful for the prayers and support from many special friends, including Mary Alice and Bill Bozeman of Knoxville, and Joan and Sam Humphreys of Johnson City.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway in Knoxville on May 29th. Visitation will be from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, with a service to follow at 2:00pm in the chapel. Family and friends will go in procession to Woodlawn Cemetery at 4500 Woodlawn Pike, Knoxville immediately following the service at 3pm.
