Robert G. “Bob” Affel, Jr., age 67 of Knoxville, Tennessee, beloved son, brother, friend, and boss passed away Friday, May 20, 2022. He was born March 17, 1955, in Knoxville, Tennessee, and was a member of the Fountain City Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by his father, Robert Affel, Sr. Bob is survived by his beloved mother, Ann Orr of Knoxville, and his sister, Susan Elaine Affel, also of Knoxville, several nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of many friends.
Bob had an enterprising spirit and a dedicated work ethic from an early age. He founded Sun Electric Company of Tennessee, Inc. in 1976, where he has employed so many through the years, encouraging them to attend apprenticeship school and establish their careers as electricians. He spent his life dedicated to his business and his loyal work family. He was active in the local and state-wide construction industry where he was a member of the Associated General Contractors of Knoxville, Associated Builders & Contractors, and served on the Board of Directors for Resource Valley Construction Training Council, and Builders Exchange of Tennessee. His hobbies and interests included traveling, cars, motorcycles, camping, skiing, and boating. He was a long-time active member of Fort Loudon Yacht Club since 2000 and has served on the Board of Directors there.
The family wants to thank the many friends who loved and supported Bob throughout his difficult journey, especially Melanie Crowe, nurse and friend, The Pat Summit Foundation, Amedisys Hospice Care, NHC Cavette Hill Memory Center, Always Best Care, and a host of many loving caregivers and healthcare professionals.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 pm Tuesday, May 24 with the funeral service to follow at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Dr., Knoxville, with his friend, Rev. George Doebler, Chaplain of UT Medical Center officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am Wednesday, May 25 for the 11 am graveside service at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
