Peggy M. Wood, age 90, went home to be with her Saviour on March 31, 2022. She was born May 25, 1931 in Dickenson County, VA. She grew up in the impoverished Appalachian Mountains of Virginia and moved to the flatlands of Knoxville in 1956. She accepted Christ as her Saviour, being baptized at Olivet Baptist Church and later attending Valley View Baptist Church. She was a loving Mom, raising her children in difficult circumstances. She worked the night shift at Levi Strauss for 18 years, where she really appreciated the income and friendships of her coworkers. After working all night, with little sleep, she would wake the kids, fix their breakfast, send them off to school, and then try to catch a nap before another work shift. Peggy then worked as a child care provider because of her love of babies and children. She had a great talent for color coordination and crafting, creating beautiful ceramics and quilts, with every stitch sewn by hand. She hand-crafted dozens of beautiful quilts for friends and family. Peggy was a superb cook, especially known for her breakfast feasts of country ham, and biscuits and gravy and for her turkey, roast beef, chicken casseroles, chicken and dumplings, fried green tomatoes. She had grace, determination, fortitude and a gentle, kind, forgiving spirit. She will be missed, but a joyous reunion with family and friends in heaven has occurred. Peggy was preceded in death by beloved husband Homer, parents Bryan and Edna Dameron, brothers Hagen, Eli, Jack, and Wade, sisters Elsie, Margaret, Beulah, Maxie, and Nell. She is survived by her brother Brian Dameron, Jr. (wife Shirley), her sons Tommy, Jimmy (wife Robin), Johnny (wife Karen), Roy, grandchildren Daniel (Jennifer), Zachary (Amanda), and Sarah, and ten great grandchildren. Special thanks go to Robin Tillman, Lynn Kay Counts, and Janet Willis for their special loving care for Peggy. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm Tuesday with funeral service immediately following at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 W. Adair Drive. Rev. Billy Bell, Rev. Jared Shumate, and Elder Daniel Wood will officiate. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery for an 11 am graveside service. Condolences may be offered at www.berrylynnhurst.com.
