Patricia Ann Wininger of Knoxville, Tennessee gracefully departed this world at home on Thursday, February 29th 2024,at the age of 78. Pat was a long- time member of Second Presbyterian Church. Her educational journey began at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College where she received her undergraduate degree and ended at the University of Tennessee where she received her Master’s. From there she embarked on a fulfilling career as an educator in the Knox County School System. Pat’s impact as a teacher spanned generations, leaving an enduring legacy at Rule, Hall’s, and Austin East High Schools.
Upon her well-deserved retirement, Pat committed herself to volunteering. She was a State Ombudsman advocating for the elderly and served on the sub-committee that re-wrote the state regulations that applied to assisted living facilities. Pat served her local Lions Club chapter for several years. She also supported Knox Area Project Access, Mobile Meals, FISH Hospitality Pantries, and Young-Williams Animal Shelter. Pat’s numerous awards and leadership positions reflected the profound impact she had on the causes she championed.
In her moments of leisure, Pat found joy in the game of bridge where she participated weekly. She also cherished spending quality time with her closest friends.
Pat was preceded in death by her adoring parents, Clarence and Edna (Ward) Wininger and her sisters, Bettie (Wininger) Ramen and Pamela (Wininger) Maples. Pat is survived by her nephew, Grey Maples III and his family; niece, Julianne Stapleton Evilsizer and several cousins.
A graveside service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held at Lynnhurst Cemetery on Monday, March 18th. Attendees are invited to gather at the gravesite at 2:45pm for a 3pm service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Lion’s Club or your favorite animal charity ensuring that Pat’s legacy will endure.
