Marye was born on October 18, 1939 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was an extraordinary individual with a warm heart and a zest for life. Marye was known and lovingly referred to by her family as Aunt Kaki or Granny Marye. Marye graduated from East High School in 1957 and remained close to her special friend, Glenda Hawthorne. She later earned her BS in Accounting from George Mason University in Washington, DC in 1979. She studied for her Masters of Arts majoring in Political Science from UT, Knoxville. She worked for the US Prison System, was a bank teller and an employee of the FDIC, a poll worker for Knox County, a campground host for Arcadia, Everglades and the Grand Canyon and worked for the US Census.
Marye was a military wife (Army) with her first husband Bob Loy. They lived in Germany, Washington DC, New Mexico and various places before returning to East Tennessee. Marye met Bob Rose in a bereavement group. Together they blended families and communities. One family tradition they carried on was their Christmas chili dinners. After the loss of Bob Rose, Marye volunteered for the Hospice Center in Halls. Marye was a member of First Baptist Church of Sevierville, and a 40+ year member of “Rich Wallace Sunday School Class”. Marye had a passion for books and reading her Bible. She was the treasurer for the Friends of the Kodak Library for numerous years as well as a longtime member of the Friends of the Knox County Public Library. She served as treasurer for the Knox County Friends for 6 years as well as co-chairing the Advocacy Committee. Marye participated in the League of Women’s Voters and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a Lady Vols supporter and enjoyed attending the Lady Vols’ basketball games. Marye was also an avid gardener. Marye loved dogs and cared very deeply for the many pets she has had over the years.
Marye was preceded in death by her parents, James Roy and Beulah Shaw Gott and step mother, Alma Gott; first husband, Robert "Bob" A. Loy; second husband, Melvin Robert "Bob" Rose; sister, Bettye (Grady) Bennett; step sister Mary Elizabeth Gass (Jack McNeely and Ed Gass), sister and brother-in-law, Jane and George Loy.
Marye is survived by her nephews, Steve Bennett (Donna) and Jim Bennett (Patty); great nieces, Beth Ford and Kerri Thompson (Matt); great nephew, Patrick Bennett (Haley); great great nieces and nephews, Zeke, Lexi, Paisley, Liam, Luke; sister-in-law, Wilma Loy; cousin, Nancy Griffin and step nieces, Diane Pyne and Kathy (Rodney) Bunch; Rose step-children, Bobby (Debbie) Rose, Dianna (Sissy) Steffey and Donnie Rose; step-granddaughters, Jodi, Ashley and Jessica; step-great granddaughters, Adalyn and Harper.
Her compassion for others always shined.

A visitation for Marye will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919. A funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm with a graveside service to immediately follow in Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.
