Atkin, Mary Louise Dyer - age 91, of South Knoxville, passed away peacefully at home with her family. She was the daughter of Clyde E. Dyer and Minnie C. Dyer of Jacksonville, Florida. Mary Louise was born February 11, 1921 in Jacksonville, Florida and married her high school sweetheart, Robert Gordon Toombs, who passed away in September 1951. Mary Louise and Robert were blessed with two sons, Robert and Richard. She later married Robert Alan Atkin, who passed away in August 2005. They were blessed with two daughters, Susan and Terry. Mary Louise was completely devoted to her family and dearly loved by all her friends and family. Throughout her life, Mary Louise exemplified compassion, kindness, and unconditional love. Mom, Mimi, and Nanny was our family matriarch, quiet and unassuming, and a caregiver to all her family. Having grown up at the beach, she enjoyed the water and was an excellent swimmer. She loved traveling with her husband, Alan, and being with her family. Mary Louise is preceded in death by husbands, Robert Gordon Toombs and Robert Alan Atkin; son, Richard Dyer Atkin; and grandson, Daniel Alan Fletcher. Survived by children, Robert G. Atkin, Susan Atkin Fletcher and husband Stan, and Terry Atkin Cavett; grandchildren, Julie Bass and husband Andy, Mark Atkin and wife Dianne, Patrick Fletcher, Katie Fletcher, Timothy Fletcher, Chelsea Peterson and husband Matt, Sarah Long and husband Jess, and Jesse Cavett; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Clyde E. Dyer. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc., 2270 Sutherland Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37919. Family will receive friends Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 12noon to 2pm, funeral service to follow at 2pm, Saturday in the Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway with Rev.
