Mary Agnes Cowden

Mary A. Cowden, “Aunt Iggy”, age 92 of Knoxville and formerly of Beckley, WV, departed this life on September 12, 2015. She passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by her side. She was a World War II veteran in the Women’s Army Air Corps (WAAC). She was loved by everyone she met and she loved everyone “Big Much”. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Mack D. Cowden; parents, C.W. and Brooke McCormick; several siblings; and grandson, George Trevor Cowden. She is survived by her sons, Danny and partner Roger Lacy, Tommy and wife Susan, George “Buster” and wife Debbie; grandchildren, Christy, Tom, Chrystal, Stephanie and Tonya; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 14, 2015 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Berry Funeral Home on Chapman Highway, with a service to follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Rick Loy officiating. Family and friends will meet at Berry Funeral Home at 9:00am on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 to go in procession to Boyd’s Creek Cemetery for a 10:00am graveside service.
